Dieciséis películas están listas para competir en la categoría de ficción en el Festival Sundance que se llevará a cabo en enero de 2013, y con exactamente la mitad de los filmes dirigidos por mujeres, se marca un nuevo récord para el festival en su edición número 29.
Alrededor de 113 largometrajes de 32 países fueron seleccionados, incluyendo 27 películas en competencia y 51 cintas de directores debutantes. Además las categorías principales fueron apenas anunciadas.
Recordemos que el festival de cine independiente fue creado por Robert Redford en 1983 y tiene como sede a la ciudad de Utah. Los filmes independientes que se han presentado en ediciones pasadas han logrado tener éxito en taquilla, como la ganadora del año pasado Beasts of Southern Wild.
